STEEPLE ASHTON PARISH COUNCIL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF STEEPLE ASHTON PARISH COUNCIL The Annual General Meeting of the Parish Council took place on 11th May 2009. Mr. G. Hyatt was elected as Chairman and Mr. A. Philpott as Vice-Chairman for the coming year. The remaining Parish Councillors are Mrs. R. Brett-Green, Mrs. C. Bullen, Mr. J. Cottle, Mr. D. Price, Mrs. S. Prior and Mr. J. Rowley. Mr. I. Van Ryssen has resigned from the Parish Council and thanks were given to him for all his work over the past 14 years on the Council, 6 of them as Chairman. It was agreed that Parish Council meetings would continue to be held on the second Monday in the month and Planning Issues Only Parish Council Meetings (if required) on the fourth Monday starting at 7.30pm in the skittle alley of the village hall. All are welcome to the meetings. ANNUAL PARISH MEETING The Annual Parish Meeting on 7th April heard reports from the Parish Council and from other aspects of village life, Neighbourhood Watch, STASH, The Friends of Steeple Ashton and Steeple Ashton On Line (www.2sa.co.uk). If you would like a copy of the minutes from the 2007 meeting please contact me. PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCY. The returning officer has been informed that the Parish Council will need another member to fill the vacancy following the resignation of Mr. I. Van Ryssen. I am not in a position at present to confirm whether this will be by election or co-option. A notice will be placed on the Parish Council notice board as soon as confirmation arrives. However, if you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor please contact me for further details of the role of a Parish Councillor. The person elected/co-opted will be a parish Councillor for a term of four years until the Parish Council elections in 2013, when the Councillor will, along with the rest of the council, retire and an election will take place to elect a Council for the following four years. GARDEN BONFIRES. Please observe the ‘Bonfire Code’ before lighting a bonfire. • Do not burn plastics, paint or rubber as they emit harmful substances and it is an offence to cause the emission of dark or black smoke. • Do not light bonfires on days when people are likely to be using their gardens or hanging out washing. It is recommended that bonfires are restricted to after 6pm. • Only burn dry garden waste. • Site your bonfire as far as possible from neighbouring houses and think about the wind direction. PROPOSED MOVE OF SUMMERHAM AND SEEND TO MELKSHAM AREA BOARD. Since April 1st Steeple Ashton is now in the Wiltshire Council Electoral Division of Summerham and Seend. The Parish Council has been advised that Summerham and Seend will be part of the Melksham Area Board and not the Trowbridge Area Board. Letters of strong objection regarding this move were sent to Jane Scott, leader of WC, and others and the Parish Council is still pursuing the matter. A meeting proposed by Mr John Thompson, Deputy Leader of Wiltshire Council between Chairman of the parishes in Summerham and Seend to discuss the moving of the electoral division to Melksham from Trowbridge has not yet taken place. KEEVIL AIRFIELD USE: FAT ALBERT STAGES We have been advised that this will take place on Saturday 25th July 2009. NATIONAL SPRINT ASSOCIATION DATES We have been advised that there will be a motorcycle sprint day on Sunday 6th September between 12.15pm and 5.00pm (approx). Motorcycles dating from pre 1930 to the present day will be sprinting over a measured quarter mile. PLANNING Planning applications are considered at Parish Council Meetings and Planning Issues Only Parish Council Meetings. There is an Open Forum for members of the public to comment on planning matters prior to their consideration.
